Maldon and Tiptree secured a comfortable win against Soham Town Rangers who had keeper George Lawton to thank for keeping the scoreline down.

Jammers manager David Wright made four changes to the starting line up with Tyler Brampton, Ben Wyatt and Rhys Henry being recalled and newcomer Charlie Edge being given his début.
With the strong wind in their favour it was the visitors who looked dangerous early on with Salim Relizani almost profiting from a defensive lapse but after taking the ball forward he then put his shot over the bar. Soham's Ryan Sharman then got possession from a long goal kick before putting a good 20 metre drive just wide then Simon Swinton did the same but this time the ball flew past the other post. That was almost as good as it got for the visitors as the Jammers took almost total control of the game with Matt Lock, pictured, controlling things from the middle of the field as the Jammers settled down to put on a fine display of quick, accurate passing football. The home side got a somewhat fortunate opening goal after 15 minutes when Charley Edge, on his début, saw his 20 metre shot deflected over the head of helpless visiting keeper George Lawton, to finish neatly in the corner of the net. The home side continued on the attack with full back Ben Wyatt getting forward at every opportunity and after a good run down the touchline he pulled the ball back for Darren McQueen to turn well but then shoot narrowly over before another excellent Wyatt run gave Edge another shooting chance but he saw his goal bound shot blocked. Visiting keeper Lawton then pulled off the first of a number of good saves when, after Lock's free kick had made the chance, Darren Mills fired in strongly but Lawton managed to block the shot away before the keeper did even better by turning over Mills's fierce shot from the rebound. Lawton was again called into action to push away a fine 20 metre low shot from David Segura-Garcia after Edge had made an opening for his team mate then, after Segura-Garcia's good work down the right had earned a corner, the resultant flag kick produced a scramble in the visitors goal area with shots being blocked before Lawton dived bravely to grab the loose ball. The fragility of a single goal lead was highlighted when, after being pegged in their half for long periods, the visitors broke away quickly for Relizani to cross to George Darling but he, from a good position, could only get a weak contact on the ball and the chance was gone. Looking to achieve a larger score line that would properly reflect their dominance the home side continued on the attack and Gavin Greenfield headed a Lock corner just over then Rhys Henry linked up well with McQueen before the latter hit a close shot just wide then just on half time Lawton came to his sides rescue again after Segura-Garcia and Edge had done well down the right before Edge fired in a hard driven shot from 20 metres which was well saved with strong hands from the keeper.

If anything the second half saw the home side achieve even more dominance than the first with early attacks seeing McQueen gaining possession of a loose ball then firing in a fierce effort from 20 metres that Lawton did extremely well with to just get the ball round the post then Lock put a central 25 metre free kick over the bar. Wyatt then went on a great run out of defence to get to the by line to see his cross just touched away by the diving Lawton before Edge put a free kick from the edge of the penalty area into the side netting. Despite the home side playing some really neat passing football it was a route one method that made the second goal after 61 minutes when keeper Shaun Phillips's long wind assisted kick was chased down by Edge who then beat his covering defender before rounding Lawton to finish into an empty net. The home sides Rhys Henry, who slowly became more and more involved in the game, then saw his fierce shot from Segura-Garcia's pass smack against the bar before bizarrely coming down onto an unsuspecting defenders head before going over the bar then Tyler Brampton joined in with the attacking with a good forward run to give Mills a shooting chance that flew just over before Henry and Segura-Garcia combined to give Brampton an opening from which he shot over. The Jammers Edge and McQueen then worked through the visitors defence to give Wyatt a shooting chance out wide but he shot over the bar before on 78 minutes a third goal for the hosts virtually assured the three points. It came after a great move from a visitors corner that was quickly played out by Lock to Henry to move forward before playing a defence splitting pass to McQueen who went clear to slip the ball into the net past an advancing Lawton. The one way traffic towards the visitors goal continued and a move between Greenfield and Henry gave McQueen a shooting chance but again the home forward was denied by a fine save from Lawton before home substitute Nnamdi Whachuku played in Henry but he saw his 20 metre shot fly just wide. Nwachuku then twisted and turned on the edge of the visitors penalty area before getting in a powerful shot that needed another excellent save from Lawton to turn the ball round the post. Lawton then dived bravely at McQueen's feet after the home forward had latched onto Nwachuku's through ball before the half ended with virtually the gallant visitors only serious attempt on goal when Simon Swinton shot wide from 20 metres.
