AFC Hornchurch escaped with all three points after defensive errors, again proved costly for The Jammers.
The Urchins took the lead after 12 minutes. A slip from Maldon defender, Jack Humphrey allowed ex Jammers striker, Leon McKenzie in on goal to bend a powerful effort in to the top corner, leaving Goalkeeper, Walker with no chance.
The Jammers battled hard and continue to look a threat with runs from deep, whilst playing attractive football. Maldon were rewarded with a chance of their own as Back Of The Net, Man Of The Match, Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe was fouled inside the eighteen yard box. Ogedi-Uzokwe, picked himself up to take the penalty, his effort was saved by Sam Mott, however Mott could not prevent Ogedi-Uzokwe's rebound from reaching the back of the net... one all.
With four minutes remaining before half-time, Maldon were unlucky to be level as scorer, Ogedi-Uzokwe had a goal chalked off for an apparent offside, match highlights from Back Of The Net would prove that Junior was onside and his goal should have been allowed. However, Hornchurch had been awarded a free kick, thirty five yards from goal and summer recruit, Bradley Warner prepared to take it. Warner delivered his free-kick straight in to the hands of Goalkeeper, Walker who somehow was not able to prevent the ball from slipping through his hands and in to his goal... the Urchins were back in front, 1-2.
Half Time: Maldon & Tiptree 1 - 2 AFC Hornchurch
The Jammers continued to batter Hornchurch in the second half, however they just could not find that all important goal. Several saves from Mott began to frustrate Kevin Horlock and his side. Maldon would not come much closer to scoring, than when Chris Millar (pictured) rattled the frame of the goal from 25 yards with only two minutes on the clock.
Despite an impressive performance from Maldon, they failed to pick up any points. Their second home defeat in the league already this season.
