Two second half goals enough for Jammers win
Maldon and Tiptree turn in a determined display to take all three points at Bury Town.
Bury Town FC v Maldon and Tiptree FC Bostik league One North Saturday 14 October 2017
With further injuries to Ryan Gondoh and Johnville Renee meaning they were unavailable, Jammers boss Kevin Horlock was again down to the bare bones of naming a starting eleven but was only able to name 3 substitutes. Thankfully Matt Lock was able to return from injury and Harry Morgan was available again.
On a fine afternoon on a good looking surface it was the visitors who threatened first with Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe getting up well to flick on a long clearance but Kieran Bailey just lost possession as he moved into the visitors penalty box and it was Bury who then came close to breaking the early deadlock when Ryan Jollard's teasing cross was just put off for a corner by Nicholas Akoto then from the resultant flag kick Cemel Ramadan fired over at the near post. Ex Jammer Darren Mills then saw his shot from the edge of the penalty area deflected wide before the league's top scorer, Jammers centre forward Ogedi-Uzokwe, showed his prowess with a determined run from the halfway line before firing in a strong shot from a narrow angle that shook the bar before rebounding out. The visitors Bailey then saw his shot deflected to go narrowly over before landing on the top of the net then from the corner Ogedi Uzokwe and Oliver Kensdale both failed to make contact as the ball flew past them in front of goal. Play was flowing from one end to the other but neither team seemed to be able to find a killer ball to give any clear cut scoring chances and most opportunities were from long range or from corner or free kicks. Mills, for Bury did get down the left before getting over a cross to Ramadan but he hit just over then the closest chance of a goal came when a Mills cross was met well by a Ricky Spriggs header but visiting keeper Dominic Kurasik (pictured) pulled off a fine save to get the ball over the bar. The visitors Bailey then featured twice---the first with great turn followed by a shot that went just over then secondly with a 22 metre free kick that again flew narrowly over the bar to end a pretty even but rather uneventful first 45 minutes

Jammers midfielder Nicholas Akoto got the first attempt on goal in the second half when he gained possession from a missed tackle to go clear on goal but a home defender got back well to block his shot then Ogedi-Uzokwe showed good skill to get the ball down on the edge of the penalty area before turning and firing in a shot that home keeper Luis Tibbles saved. Bury's Olly Hughes was then released down the right by a quick free kick but his cross was headed over by Mills before the visitors took a 57 minute lead when Matt Lock's through ball put Ogedi-Uzokwe clear into the box only to be taken down by Tibbles for a clear penalty decision which Ogedi-Uzokwe dispatched into the corner with his usual aplomb. Ogedi-Uzokwe then used his heading skills to nod on through balls twice to Bailey to run onto but the first one saw Bailey hit over from a good position then for the second he was denied again by a good defensive recovery. Dominic Kurasik in the visitors goal had handled everything really confidently but on 66 minutes he was beaten when, from Ryan Jolland's right wing corner, Ricky Spriggs climbed well to head powerfully into the top of the net. Just a couple of minutes later Spriggs again got up well to another corner but this time he headed over but from then on Kurasik continued to confidently deal with any threat from the home attack. This enabled Maldon and Tiptree to retain a firm grip on the game even though they lost captain Matt Lock who left the field injured but they made light of this with what proved the winning goal after 77 minutes when a long throw by Emmanuel Udoji from wide on the left somehow found its way to Bailey at the far post and he was able to turn the ball home from close range. The visitors played out the remaining time confidently with Bury unable to make any headway against the Jammers strong backline well supported by a hard working midfield.
