Jammers defenders turn goal scorers to secure three points

One goal from central defender Jack Cawley and a double from his defensive partner Oliver Kensdale, all in the last 15 minutes, earns victory at Dereham Town
Dereham Town FC v Maldon and Tiptree FC Bostik League One North Saturday 10 November 2018
There were two changes from the starting line up that began the previous league winning game against Soham Town Rangers. Sammie McLeod and the previously injured Billy Roast returned--both in midfield.
Defensive frailties showed themselves in the visitors defence early on with possession easily gifted to Dereham with a poorly placed pass which left Adam Hipperson space to exploit down the left before hitting a cross shot that, luckily for the visitors, flashed just wide of the far post. They were not so lucky after just 4 minutes when Hipperson was allowed to carry the ball from almost the half way line down the left before his deflected centre found Jamie Forshaw unmarked on the penalty spot and his firm drive easily found the back of the net to give the home side a dream start. Some even play then followed with Maldon and Tiptree's Decarrey Sheriff a little unlucky when his shot on the turn hit the bar before going over then the same player turned well again before seeing his goal bound effort blocked off for a corner. Dereham's Forshaw then saw his low 25 metre strike saved by visiting keeper Ben McNamara with a diving save before the home side punished some more poor defensive play by the Jammers on 28 minutes when Thomas McL eish's right wing corner was allowed to travel right across the goalline before Ollie Ebbage stabbed the ball home at the far post. The visitors James Shepherd then saw his free kick just cleared before a second try saw the ball only cleared out to Sammie McLeod whose shot from 20 metres was not held by home keeper Elliot Pride who had to concede a corner then Sheriff headed the resultant flag kick over the bar from close range. The Jammers Shane Cojocarel then could not get his close range header on target from Shepherd's pin point cross then just before half time Dereham's danger man, Hipperson, spun expertly away from a tackle before firing in a good shot from just outside the penalty area that saw McNamara pull off an excellent diving save to get the ball round his post.
Half Time Dereham Town FC 2 Maldon and Tiptree FC 0
The visitors started the second half as they had the first with a very poor piece of defensive play that again gifted Hipperson possession but McNamara atoned for the error with a vital block. Almost from that moment on Maldon and Tiptree took a tighter and tighter hold on the game as the home side breathed a sigh of relief as McLeod's header from a left wing corner was scrambled off the goal line then both Cojocarel and Sheriff were just denied as they almost wriggled through. McLeod then saw his 20 metre drive go just wide but the visitors opened their goal account after 75 minutes when Lewis Dark's ball in was headed on for Cojocarel to get a shot away that was blocked off for a corner then from this Oliver Kensdale flicked the ball home at the near post. The visitors were now pouring forward and Matthew Brigg's got a cross over that saw McLeod's header just clawed away before Cojocarel's follow up shot was just blocked then a very good passing move put Sheriff away and clear on goal but he hit over from close range. Cojocarel then saw his shot from the penalty area edge well saved by Pride before on 85 minutes the Jammers equalised when Shepherd's free kick ran loose in a packed penalty area where Jack Cawley (pictured)
reacted first to fire a good strike into the top corner. Continuing to chase a winner Briggs was unlucky to see his header from Shepherd's corner only stopped by a brave save by Pride then Billy Roast saw his 10 metre shot go over. A sterling fight back was completed after 89 minutes when Cawley and substitute Chris Millar combined to leave Cawley the opportunity to get over a good cross where Kensdale was man on the spot again to hit low through a melee of players into the corner of the net.
