Maldon and Tiptree bought Coggeshall's recent unbeaten run to an end with an excellent display
Coggeshall Town FC v Maldon and Tiptree FC Bostik League One North Saturday 24 November 2018
Jammers boss Wayne Brown made three changes to the starting line up from last Saturday's match against Tilbury with Callum Jones and new signings Stephane Ngamvoulou and Eddie-Louis Dsane, being drafted in for Chris Millar, Shane Cojocarel and Callum Anderson who reverted to the substitutes bench. Also included on the bench were further new signings Oluwatobi Coker and Kyen Nicholas.
Both sides started at a fast pace with the visitors perhaps having the better of the early play and they made this pay after just 4 minutes when Jack Crawley got tremendous height to James Shepherds,s right wing corner to send a strong header from 5 metres into the top of Coggeshall's net. The home side needed to adjust their line up after just 7 minutes when the unfortunate Joshua Pollard had to leave the field with a leg injury--- all at Maldon and Tiptree wish Josh all the best and hope for an early and complete recovery. Coggeshall's danger man Sam Bantick then featured with a run down the right and a good cross that Ross Wall headed over then he saw a shot blocked before seeing his swinging cross well held by visiting keeper Ben McNamara. The Jammers Matthew Briggs then got away down the left after being released by Decarrey Sheriff but saw his dangerous centre just cleared before a great run from the visitors Sammie McLeod took him down to and along the visitors goal line before his short effort on goal was just cleared at the near post before Callum Jones seized on the rebound but he was also thwarted at the near post as his effort was again blocked. After not really troubling the visitors back line Coggeshall got themselves right back into the game after 29 minutes with an excellent free kick from just outside the penalty area that Bantick judged just right to put the ball round the wall and into the net low down at the post. Bantick then saw his low 20 metre shot saved by McNamara before the visitors Sheriff almost got on the end of Mcleod's through ball but just missed out as the ball sped away from him. As the half ended the home sides Correy Davidson got clear on goal only to see his effort blocked by a great sprawling block by McNamara then Davidson saw his acrobatic effort from the rebound bounce just wide of the far post.
Half Time Coggeshall Town FC 1 Maldon and Tiptree FC 1
The first half's start was replicated at the start of the second as Maldon and Tiptree again scored early (48 minutes) when a fine passing more across the pitch from right to left saw Matthew Briggs (pictured) get possession down the left wing and he beat a number of players before cutting inside at the goal line to put a low cross into Sheriff's foot just a metre out in front of goal and he easily scored with a virtual tap in to set off his scoring somersault routine. The visitors were well on top now and home keeper James Bransgrove needed to make an excellent diving save from Sheriff after the forward had rounded his covering defender before getting a fine shot away that was just stopped from entering the net at the post. Maldon and Tiptree's persistence was rewarded again after 61 minutes when McLeod's free kick from just outside the penalty area went low through the wall before possibly getting a deflection that saw Bransgrove wrong footed and the ball going into the net at the near post. The home sides Wall almost made the best of a poor clearance by McNamara but luckily his effort at an open goal from distance was blocked before the Jammers Shepherd was shown a rather soft yellow card and with his earlier caution meant that Maldon and Tiptree were down to 10 men for the last 21 minutes plus added time. The 10 men defended stoutly as the home side gained in confidence but Davidson hit wastefully high and wide from a good position then Wall played in substitute Nnamdi Nwachuku who saw his effort blocked for a corner then from this resultant corner saw two attempts on goal just forced away from the goal line. Bantick then had his head in his hands as he completely missed a long right wing cross when free right in front of goal then Wall saw his strong 25 metre shot well held by McNamara. On 87 minutes another fine goal which more than matched the quality of the rest of them gave Coggeshall renewed hope when Davidson broke through two tackles in midfield before sending a strong shot from all of 25 metres that struck the underside of the bar before rebounding into the back of the net. The visitors fine defensive display continued to hold out against the hosts with little further scares and earn a vital three points against a team that will surely be up there challenging for honours come the end of the season.
