Eddie-Louis Dsane's hat trick seals Jammers win
Maldon and Tiptree turn in a fine team performance to defeat Romford
Maldon and Tiptree FC v Romford FC Bostik League One North Saturday 1st December 2018
Jammers manager Wayne Bond made three changes to the starting line up from last weeks fine win at Coggeshall Town. In came youngster Kojo Awotwi, Oluwatobi Coker and Michael Brothers, who returned from suspension, to replace Callum Jones, Lewis Dark and the suspended James Shepherds.
On a greasy surface the home side started on the front foot with a Oluwatobi Coker free kick causing problems in the Romford goal area where a mad scramble saw two goal bound efforts just blocked then Decarrey Sheriff was just thwarted as he almost made contact with Michael Brothers's centre. The Jammers pressure told as they took the lead after 12 minutes when Sheriff's snap shot from 20 metres seemed to bounce out of Romford keeper Rhys Hughes's hands and roll invitingly to Eddie-Louis Dsane for him to put the ball home into an open net. The home sides Matthew Briggs was the next to get an attempt on goal but Hughes saved well from the full backs strong shot before Briggs freed Sheriff down the right for the latter to cut inside but then saw his shot go just the wrong side of the near post. Almost all the action was being contained in the Romford half although Max Bolton did get away from the home defence down the right but home keeper Ben McNamara made a comfortable save. After a number of near misses the home side increased their lead after 27 minutes when Briggs freed Michael Brothers down the right from where he sent in a perfect low cross to find Dsane in front of goal and he was left with a fairly simple tap in to score his second of the game. After the Jammers Sammie Mcleod had hit a 25 metre effort just wide and Sheriff had seen his close range shot blocked the visitors almost pulled a goal back when Nathanael Joseph was played through and clear on goal but McNamara was quickly out to block the shot with a good sprawling save. Keeping up the pressure on the visitors goal Briggs played in Sheriff who turned sharply before getting his shot away that was just blocked then a great run down the right by Kojo Awotwi ended with fine cross that Dsane headed goalwards but Hughes pulled out a good save to turn the ball over the bar. Another strong run by Briggs then ended with Stephane Ngamvoulou turning inside before seeing his shot flash just wide then Sheriff and Dsane again combined well for the latter to see his shot saved by Hughes.

Attempting to keep the pressure up on Romford the home side continued with their high pressing, quick passing game and Dsane saw his header from Briggs's cross go just over before the visitors looked to change the game with all three substitutes being introduced after 48 minutes. Romford's Malaki Tousaint did get over a good cross that McNamara held at full stretch but it was still the Jammers who looked the most threatening and they almost added to their goal tally from a short corner routine but McLeod saw his fierce shot well blocked by Hughes then Jack Cawley could only head the rebound wide. After 57 minutes the home side did score their third goal which came rather fortunately when Brigg's snap shot from 25 metres appeared to be covered by Hughes but the keeper let the shot slip out of his grasp to enter the net at the base of the post. Hughes made up for his error shortly after when diving to pull off a good save to keep out Sheriff's strong shot from close range then got a stroke of luck when, after parrying Dsane's shot, Michael Brothers lost his footing as he was about to strike the ball home. After not really getting too close to a goal Romford's efforts were rewarded after 66 minutes when Connor Hammond's free kick from wide on the left was forced home at the far post by George Forrest. This created little change in the pattern of play and Maldon and Tiptree were soon back on the attack with Briggs and Sheriff playing a close one/two inside the visitors penalty area before Briggs's shot smacked against the crossbar then McLeod hit the rebound just wide before Sheriff suffered the same fate when his first time effort also thudded against the crossbar before rebounding to substitute Shane Cojocarel who saw his strong shot just blocked. Dsane hopes of a hattrick were certainly raised as he was sent clear through on goal but after facing an open goal he somehow put his shot wide of the post then Cojocarel received the ball from a short corner but his shot from the edge of the penalty area flew just over. Just as everyone was listening for the referee's final whistle Dnase was given a last chance to get his third goal when he and Cojocarel combined to get through a tiring Romford defence to leave Dsane with only Hughes to beat and he achieved this with a firm strike into the corner.
