Jammers back to winning ways
An exhilarating first half with six goals could not be maintained but Maldon and Tiptree hold fast to take three points.
Great Wakering Rovers FC v Maldon and Tiptree FC Bostik League One North Saturday 5 January 2019
After last weeks disappointing defeat by Witham Town, Jammers boss Wayne Brown made only one change to his starting line up with Sammie McLeod coming in for Shane Cojocarel.
An opening 15 minutes gave little indication of the goal spree that would follow as the only incidents of note were Wakering's Billy Johnson's free kick that Danny Dafter glanced wide then the visitors Laste Dombaxe hit over from 25 metres. It all changed from the 16 minute when a long free kick into the home sides penalty area was held up well by Decarrey Sheriff but he was unceremoniously bought down by home keeper Harry Seaden for a clear penalty. Sheriff picked himself up and rifled the spot kick into the top corner. Maldon and Tiptree took control of the game now and Matthew Briggs was only denied a close range shooting chance by a last ditch tackle then Eddie-Louis Dsane saw his shot whistle just wide. On 30 minutes the Jammers increased their lead with another 30 metre worldy from Sammie McLeod that hit one post then rebounded across goal to enter the net at the other post. Just two minutes later a third goal arrived for the visitors when a very quick break from a Great Wakering corner saw the ball transferred upfield where Sheriff did extremely well to hold the ball up before cutting forward then seeing his shot hit the post to rebound straight to McLeod to convert easily from close range. The excitement of two goals in two minutes hardly had time to dispel when the home side reduced the arrears just a minute later when a good move forward ended with Jake Gordon taking advantage of a fine through ball to slot past visiting keeper Ben McNamara. The home sides Billy Johnson then hit a fierce low shot from just outside the penalty area that fizzed just wide before the goals started coming again with a fourth for the visitors after 45 minutes following a long delay which saw Stephane Ngamvoulou having to leave the field. From the resultant free kick wide of the penalty area Billy Roast headed the ball back into the danger area where it hit a post to rebound to Sheriff who confidently put the rebound home. Not to be outdone the home side went straight up the other end for Shoman Bamwell's cushioned header to put Gordon through but Mcnamara pulled off a fine blocking save to keep the ball out before, well into the considerable added time the visitors conceded a very sloppy goal when various attempts to clear a long throw failed to get the ball away before Bamwell eventually got a last touch to put the ball over the line.

Hopes of another 45 minutes of goal laden football were dashed with a much more disciplined effort from the home defence with the event that the second half became a more even affair but still with chances at both ends to add to the scoreline. The visitors Dsane was only just off target with a good effort that flew wide then home keeper Harry Seaden excelled with a fine save to get to and push out Briggs's strong volley
before McLeod's effort from the follow up was just blocked. McLeod then engineered a good shooting chance for Sheriff but again Seaden pulled off a good save to just put the ball over the bar. A good passing move from the away side ended with Sheriff putting a low shot just wide of the far post then Seaden was again called into action with another fine save to get Oluwatoi Coker's good drive from the edge of the penalty area over the bar. The home sides main efforts saw substitute Joshua Wiggins good low shot just put round the post by McNamara then Gordon put a close range shot on the turn just over.
