Maldon and Tiptree generally held the upper hand all game in good win at Soham Town Rangers
Soham Town Rangers FC v Maldon and Tiptree FC Bostik League One North Saturday 23 February 2019
Jammers boss Wayne Brown made just one change from the recent games line up with Lewis Dark brought back into the starting line up with Tojo Awotwi dropping to the bench.
In bright sunshine the home side got the first sight of goal when Will Gardner's right wing corner was met by Lloyd Groves's overhead kick but his effort went over the bar. A Maldon and Tiptree short corner then followed with Sammie McLeod's low cross put just wide by Liam Hope then Matthew Briggs and Stephane Ngamvoulou combined down the left before playing Jorome Slew through but his usual touch deserted him as he only got minimal contact on his shot and home keeper Craig Foxall easily held his shot. Soham's Gardner then saw his 25 metre free kick finish in the side netting as the Jammers keeper Ben McNamara appeared to be obstructed before a quick break by the visitors ended with McLeod putting Slew through but he pushed the ball just too far and he then could not get enough twist on his shot at the near post. The visitors took a deserved lead after 32 minutes when Laste Dombaxe twisted his way through before releasing Slew to add to his mounting goal tally when he moved forward before rounding keeper Foxall before firing home. Little was being seen of the home attack as Jack Cawley and Billy Roast kept a firm hold in the middle of the Jammers backline and the visitors almost added to their score when Mcleod and Hope combined down the left before crossing for Slew to hit a fine overhead kick that Foxall responded to with a fine save to push the ball onto the bar and over. As the half ended Maldon and Tiptree again came close to scoring when Matthew Briggs's long cross was headed back into the goalmouth where Ngamvoulou and Hope both attempted shots that were just blocked before Foxall managed to grab the loose ball.
Half Time Soham Town Rangers FC 0 Maldon and Tiptree FC 1
Maldon and Tiptree dominated the play for most of the second half with only an occasional break by the home side causing any danger to the visitors goal. Early in the half the Jammers Dombaxe put in a firm 25 metre free kick that Foxall just managed to palm away with Roast hitting a firm shot from the rebound that Foxall blocked then Briggs, in typical fashion, got away down the left before releasing Dombaxe to get another drive away that Foxall again just managed to keep out before Hope put over a low cross that McLeod, sliding in, put just wide. On 67 minutes the visitors scored a second goal when the ball was played across from left to right before Hope gave Mcleod (pictured) a shooting chance that he accepted wonderfully well with a firm strike from the edge of the penalty area that flew into the top corner. Jammers keeper McNamara was then called into action for about the only time in the half when a Soham free kick was only cleared as far as Jack Mochalski who fired in a low shot that McNamara comfortably saved. Back came the visitors with Briggs again bursting down the left but his cross was mishit by Hope then McLeod and Dombaxe combined before the latter hit narrowly wide. Jammers substitute Eddie-Louis Dsane was soon in action but a clear trip on him in the home penalty area was not given by the referee and he got a caution for his protests then he put in a long run forward before shooting wide from the penalty area edge . Further Jammers substitute Tobi Coker then took centre stage when he tried to finish a flowing Jammers move but he was unceremoniously upended for the referee to this time agree a penalty needed to be awarded but Hope, with a golden chance to open his Jammers goal account, saw his spot kick well saved by Foxall. There was still time for both Dsane and Coker to see close range efforts charged down before Cawley hit the rebound over from close range.
