A catch up with hotshot, Akinwande

By Richard Buckby

Striker, Femi Akinwande has recently caught up with Richard Buckby.

“The aim is still to win the league and I feel personally we can achieve it nce we get back to winning ways” Femi Akinwande

Femi, you have started your Maldon career superbly. What have you made of your start?
Yeah. I think I have a made a good start to my Maldon career, but there is still room for improvement and for it to get better. It comes down to the trust/confidence David and Liam have had in me to lead the front line and to score goals.

You have scored nine goals overall, do you have a favourite?
My favourite goal would have to be my goal against Sudbury, just for the fact that it was on my birthday.

Before joining the Jammers, who else have you played your football for?
I started my football career at Millwall when I was 7 and I was there for 9 years. After my time at Millwall I went to Brentford and then Crystal Palace was there for a few months, after leave Crystal Palace I joined Dartford in the Conference Premier.

We have now gone five games without winning, losing three and drawing two, why do you think that is?
I don't think there is any specific reason to it because the team are willing to work hard every game for each other. We are a very, young side so I feel that everyone is still trying to adjust to the league and the physicality of it. We will get back to winning ways I'm sure of it, under the management of David Wright and Liam Bailey.

After our poor run of form, we now sit middle of the table. What do you think our expectations should be for the season?
Everyone in the team still believes we can do very well in the league, it's a very long season and there are still a lot of games to play. So the aim is still to win the league and I feel personally we can achieve it once we get back to winning ways with the quality we have in the side.

On Saturday we entertain Waltham Abbey, do you expect us to get back to winning ways?
Every weekend I expect the most from the team and winning is the main priority, so hopefully the team can turn up and put in a good performance and get 3 points.

We have already mentioned your goal scoring record for this season; do you have any goals you are looking to achieve before the end of the season?
I am looking to score as many goals as I can this season which is a normal for a striker but being so young and starting so well I feel like I can get over 20 and possibly even more. My aim is 30 and I will try my hardest to achieve that.
