David enjoyed a lengthy and notable playing career and he will bring a wealth of experience to the Jammers' managerial role.

The 35-year-old holds his UEFA A Licence and will step into management for the first time at the Wallace Binder Ground.

Maldon & Tiptree chairman Ed Garty said: “We are delighted to have someone with such experience at the helm for the coming season.

“David is someone who has an exceptional knowledge and understanding of the game and I am certain that he will be someone who our players will learn a great deal from. We are looking forward to working with him this season to take the club forward in the Ryman League.”

The 35-year-old started his career at Crewe Alexandra, and the Warrington born midfielder went on to play over 200 times for his first club, before joining Wigan in the summer of 2004.

He played 49 times for the Latics in the three year stint, which included a short loan spell with Norwich City in 2005.

David remained in the area as he joined Ipswich Town in 2007 and he made 128 appearances for the Suffolk side.

A successful stint with Crystal Palace followed, before he joined Colchester United under Joe Dunne, ensuring the U’s retained their League One status in his time at the club.

Since leaving the U’s and finishing his playing career, David has been coaching at Ipswich Town’s Academy and, alongside his Maldon management role, he will also be starting a new role in the Colchester United Academy at Florence Park, working with the U’s younger players.
