An uninspired display sees Maldon and Tiptree beaten 2-0 by Brentwood Town

Maldon and Tiptree bowed out of the Essex Senior Cup at fellow Bostik League members Brentwood Town last night. Although dominating large parts of the first half the Jammers did not really threaten the home goal too much with good approach play often breaking down at the home penalty area edge. Both Chris Millar and Michael Brothers had half chances to score but in the last minutes of the half it was the home side who created a trio of good efforts on goal that were just kept out with keeper Ben McNamara saving well from Mitch Hunter, Kojo Apenteng and then Ryan Mallett. The second half was just 5 minutes old when the home side took the lead when a free kick from near the right hand corner flag saw McNamara only able to push the ball onto the bar from where it dropped into a mass of players and Zack Littlejohn got a vital touch to force the ball over the line. After Maldon and Tiptree bought on all three substitutes at the same time it almost paid off but Decarrey Sheriff was unlucky when his shot on the turn struck the inside of the far post before rebounding out. Play continued to be mainly confined to midfield but the home side virtually made the tie safe after 75 minutes with a fine effort from Jammers old boy Mitch Hunter when he received the ball on the left inside of the penalty area from where he hit a fierce first time effort into the roof of the net. Although the visitors continued to plug away in an ever more desperate way they were unable to make any breakthrough on a strong home defence with just a James Shepherd free kick and a Sheriff header causing any problems.
