Battle at Rickstones
Pumas dig deep to out perform a very good Witham Nomads.
This was the toughest test yet for the Pumas. In short Nomads had 2 very good players and their No.10 in particular who scored all of their goals and at times walked through the Pumas like a hot knife through butter......But even that wasn't going to stop the superb Pumas display ending well.
The first half was a bit of a wake up call and the Pumas scored through Billy Maling latching onto a killer diagonal ball from the impressive Ethan Ellender and finishing cooly but a Witham goal either side of Billy's strike saw them behind at the break.
So half time and Chris and Earl had some words to inspire the Pumas at half time and they were back out early and raring to go.
Something they said worked as the Pumas looked lively and full of purpose in the second half and when a Witham attack was broken down and Fletcher Simmonds smashed his clearance up field for Henry Butcher to latch onto there was only going to be one outcome...GOAL, the Pumas were level inside 4 minutes of the second half.
The ever energetic Witham No. 10 scored twice more but that wasn't going to spoil the Pumas party......Bang Luke Baker scored on 34 minutes assisted by Max Sonnex.....WALLOP Henry Butcher scored again assisted by Stan Hunt....POW Max Sonnex then scored assisted by Byron Adams and then the final punch ......
.....A Pumas throw on the far side, The Witham manager called for a sub but the ball was already in play and found it's way through to Billy Maling who was many yards clear of the defence. Confusion ....should he play on? was the came stopped? The spectators and coaches calling for Billy to shoot, he looked back at the ref who ushered Billy to play on as he hadn't stopped the game, Billy turned and smashed the ball home and the Pumas comeback was complete.
This was a bruising encounter and a really tough test for the Pumas, one of their toughest to date but they stepped up and showed everyone that not only do they deserve to be in this league, they too can be a force to be reckoned with and the other teams will need to be wary of them in future.
Man of the match was Ethan Ellender who had by far his best game in a Pumas shirt.
No match highlights this week unfortunately.
