Two costly errors stop the Pumas
Despite domination the Pumas gave away two needless fouls that cost them the game.
This game was a game of 2 fouls.
The Pumas started brightly with both Max Sonnex and Stanley Hunt making some good runs down the flanks but the Pumas were unsuccesful in front of goal, then it happened......
....A Galleywood attack, the striker advancing into the box struck by a late reckless challenge from Max Sonnex... PENALTY! The Galleywood striker smashed the ball home giving Joseph Nice no chance.
The Pumas then found their rhythm and barraged the Galleywood goal with good intensity a post was hit, the goalkeeper fumbled but the Pumas couldn't find a way through.
On the stroke of half time Stanley Hunt Headed the ball into the box Max Sonnex 1st touch with his right foot took the ball past the last defender and his 2nd with his left foot planted the ball in the bottom corner or the net...Redemption for Max and the Pumas were level going into the break.
The second half was a bit of a contrast for the Pumas who are usually so organised and dominant found themselves bullied of the ball, unable to get shots in and couldn't get into their usual passing rhythm. Galleywood didn't really mount too many noticeable attacks but never looked like adding to their tally , but then neither did the Pumas despite having the lions share of the possession.
With only 9 minutes to go the normally flawless Fletcher Simmonds made an uncharacteristic error of judgement, on the half way line the Galleywood player won the ball and beat Fletcher who then tracked and caught the player to bring him down just inside the Pumas half.
The resulting free kick looked like one that Galleywood would just pump into the box but what happened next no one could plan for or prevent........ The Galleywood free kick taker lobbed the ball high over everyone and into the far top corner of the Pumas net, the Pumas were behind!
Despite their efforts the Pumas couldn't get themselves back into this one and found themselves on the receiving end of some real rough strong challenges and lots of pushing and pulling mixed with the odd elbow.
So the Pumas didn't come out on top this time round but they will learn from this game as they really only made 2 or 3 errors but were unfortunately punished for 2 of them which cost them the game, That's just how small the margins are in this tough league.
Man of the Match for his tireless running and adaptability playing in a few different roles was Max Sonnex.
